About

I’m Thomas Ian McLeod, born in Saskatoon in 1953, a writer and consultant. At the time this site went live in 2011, I lived in Maple Ridge, British Columbia.  This is a city of 80,000 sitting at the edge of the Metro Vancouver regional district (basically a county jurisdiction) and bordering the Fraser Valley regional district.  Geographically and economically, the two counties make up a multi-layered urban-rural entity: Fraseropolis.

From 2011 to 2019, I toured perhaps 60 urban locations in Fraseropolis, almost always in the company of a co-tourist. As of summer 2019, these visits have generated 40 urban villages scorecards. Fraseropolis.com also provides non-partisan updates on major regional trends and challenges. We tend to emphasize realities that are both obvious and often overlooked — for example, the fact that close to 80 per cent of the combined Metro/Fraser Valley population lives outside the City of Vancouver.

In summer 2019, my wife and I moved to Nanaimo, a city on Vancouver that offers glimpses of downtown Vancouver across the Strait of Georgia. For now, I will continue to visit Fraseropolis and report on them as time allows.

I have tried to perform regular maintenance on the document links, but the death rate on internet links is high, especially those related to the Metro Vancouver regional authority and TransLink. Feel free to let us know if something isn’t working.
